Introduction to HypnoBirthing
Nancy's story YouTube
Some feedback from mothers who have taken my classes Faye and Adam had their first child, Grace at home on November the 5th 2010. She sent me her wonderful birth story. Here are a few excerpts: "The only thing I could compare it to was a mild menstruation-like twinge. I spent the rest of the night resting between the mild surges. I did not sleep as such as I was excited wondering in the back of my mind if this was it and if Grace’s arrival was imminent! I got out of bed at around 2.30am as the surges were continuing and I just had to share my excitement with Adam! We decided to ring Triage at Jessop Hospital who advised that I was most likely in early labour and to ring the community midwife at 9.00am in the morning. I went back to bed to try and get some rest, although I didn’t really sleep! ........" "At 9.00am I rang J, the midwife who said she would come over around 10.30 to assess where I was at. I was worried I may be wasting her time and just having Braxton Hicks or in very early slow labour as I wasn’t in discomfort although the surges were coming every 6-7 minutes or so. I was using the Hypnobirthing surge breathing during surges as practise for later on when it would be more needed and also to make the surges more effective."
"......When J (the midwife) arrived and examined me I was 4-5 cm dilated! I was delighted that things were progressing so well. She said she could see how relaxed and comfortable I was so she would come back at 12.30pm when things should have progressed further, and advised Adam to start filling the pool!......" "When J. returned at 12.30 and examined me again I was 7-8cm! The surges were getting more intense but not overpowering and I knew my body was working well to help bring my baby into the world." "........I felt really in control of my body and confident that my baby would be coming out soon! The bearing down stage lasted only nineteen minutes. I spent most of it in the frog-legged position, until I could feel my baby’s head crowning........." "...........We spent a good ten minutes cuddling and enjoying our first moments together in the pool before I got out and delivered the placenta on dry land (which took thirty minutes).
All in all Grace’s birth was an amazing experience and one which Adam and I will obviously never forget. She came into the world in such a calm, relaxed way in her own home and she is such a happy and contented baby!"

Karen had her first baby at Jessops in summer 2010, Even though some things didn't go according to plan she was delighted with the HypnoBirthing and felt it made all the difference. She had no pain relief (over 3 days) until a few minutes before the birth.
'I had a very long labour, 72 hours from my surges coming every 3-4 minutes to Emilia being born. We didn't feel the need to call the hospital until we were 12 hours in to check how things were progressing and wound up going in and out three times in the 72 hours!!
During the whole labour, I managed to get plenty of rest, even falling asleep between and during surges!! The breathing techniques, relaxation music and visualisations helped enormously and maintaining a relaxed mind and body meant I didn't get too tired or feel too much discomfort. Both myself and my husband remained calm throughout and it took so long because Emilia was back to back. We got all the way through without any intervention but had to go into the consultant led end because I had an infection. Eventually Emilia was delivered with forceps because she had her head twisted round. We feel the hypnobirthing helped beyond our expectations in keeping us both calm, relaxed and with as little discomfort as possible!! We'll definitely be using hypnobirthing for number two!!
We'd like to thank you so much for your support and help throughout. We really enjoyed the classes and appreciated the one to one time you gave us as well, you made all the difference!!
Lots of love
Karen, Matt & Emilia

Tess and Rob's first baby was born in February 2010 at Jessops Hospital, Sheffield. I asked her for more details that I could share with you.
Hi Chris - I am fast learning that it is hard to get a spare moment. I think the birth was as textbook as it could be really, my waters broke at 5am Sat morning and contractions were pretty regular straight away and only about 4 - 5 mins apart, but I went back to bed and started my breathing and didn't bother ringing the hospital until 9am. Then at midday I went in as they felt like they were getting a bit stronger and more regular, but lo and behold I was 1cm! So went back home, more breathing, hot water bottle and then bath at 3pm for a couple of hours. At 5:30pm the contractions were every 2 - 3 mins and I started to feel a bit like I needed a poo (yes I know!) so thought I should prob call Jessops and we got there about 6:30pm to find I was 7cm - whoopee! By the time I got in delivery room I had about half an hour on the gas and air until the final stage and then he was born at 9:07pm! So drug free but I couldn't breath him down I had to push - will fill you in on that when I see you. There was no intervention and I really believe the breathing
helped it all move along so well (and of course helped with the pain). The ******* (medical condition) was fine although I was at the consultant led end - they wouldn't let me in the pool. Anyway, will have a good chat when I see you. Love Tess Hi Chris George Alexander was born at home on Wednesday 2nd December. We are all well and he is getting lots of attention from his big sister. It was a dream birth. My waters broke at midnight and I started to feel surges about 2ish, slept until 4ish when they started getting stronger. When the midwife came at 7.30 I was 7/8 cm and George was born at 9.45am. The midwife said the 1st stage was 4hours, 2nd stage was 6 mins, and delivered 3rd stage naturally too. Chris was brilliant and really helped keep me focused and relaxed. All the midwives that have visited since have been asking about the hypnobirthing, so you are now the talk of Corbar. I have given them your leaflet and website details. It was so lovely to be at home and it has made the first few days so relaxing. Your involvement and positive encouragement has been verymuch part of helping us achieve that. Thanks so much. I'll get in touch again when visits have calmed down and arrange a time for you to come and meet George. Very best wishesEmma and Chris December 2009"We never imagined anything quite as wonderful as what you teach in HypnoBirthing." Laura and Andrew, Disley. First baby, son, born at home October 09
" When the midwife arrived, the surges were more intense and I remember feeling curious about how dilated I was, so agreed for an internal exam. She said I was 8cm and was amazed as I was so relaxed.....
The birth went very well. The midwives didn't intervene. They said it was a text book birth and were amazed by how calm I was. I was told that I didn't realise how fantastic I had been. It is true as I have nothing to compare it to. I would not describe it as painful at all and 'pain-relief' was irrelevant and never occurred to me. I had a very enjoyable pregnancy and part of this, I feel, is due to hypnobirthing and the excellent instruction I received from my hypnobirthing practitioner. I felt so positive and calm throughout. My little girl is now nearly 5 months old and is a very happy baby."

Can't rave about it enough
I gave birth to Fintan Joseph on Mon 10th May at 20.04. My surges started irregularly about 1pm, I then started timing them about 2pm.
Called Steve home from work at 3pm, because I wanted to relax more. Had a long deep bath, and they seemed to kick in fully then.
Midwife arrived at 7pm (when I was 7cm) and Fintan was born at 8.04pm. Pretty swift really. Oh and I had him at home as planned - which was lovely.
Midwives were well impressed at how calm and serene I looked.
I found that sleep breathing was excellent. It really did make the discomfort go away and is empowering as you know what your body is doing so you work with, instead of against it.
Steve was a fantastic birthing partner, calming me and talking me through my breathing - I wouldn't have been able to do it without him. I played the CD constantly as well, and kept saying the affirmations in my head to make me focus on the job-in-hand.
As for the J breath, I loved it - it made the actual delivery easy-peasy.
I can't rave about it enough. Plus one push and the placenta was out - who needs drugs?
Believe in the power that is HypnoBirthing® and you too will be talked about at midwife meetings.
Our community midwives actually said it was one of the easiest first time-mother births that they had seen in 20 years - now that is some recommendation!!

My own Birth Stories by Chris Ojari

I wanted my babies born at home, but being a midwife and seeing loads of births, I was a bit scared that I might have misjudged how well I could cope and want an epidural, despite all my wishes for natural childbirth!! I was really privileged to find a GP who was interested in hypnosis who offered to teach me self hypnosis way back in 1983 ready for the birth of my first son Steven. The classes were great and I am still indebted to him, but they were far less comprehensive than the HypnoBirthing programme and my husband didn't come with me. Nevertheless they made me feel much more confident. The birth started off well and progressed to 5cms dilated overnight with no problem at all, and very little pain but then things slowed down, so it was ten hours from then until Steven was born. It was still very straightforward labour, just prolonged, and. I attribute the length of labour to the fact that Jaak, my husband had not been with me to the classes. He was great and tried to help but I 'lost it' and didn't have anyone to help me really get the best out of the experience of using hypnosis.(And I didn't have any tapes either to help me refocus)
Dan's birth was different. In 1986 (on Friday the thirteenth of June....I am definitely NOT superstitious) the whole thing was six hours from start to finish. Because I had been so long in labour first time I thought I would be ages so didn't tell anyone and just carried on with my daily routine...took Steven to 'Tumbling Tots' went shopping and just relaxed a little during a contraction, 'to take the edge off'. The I drove around for half an hour or so, with Steven, then 2, in his car seat to get him off to sleep and when I got home with him asleep I sat and relaxed myself, still having told no-one as I didn't want any interference. (I know now with the benefit of hindsight that when other people are around, I find it difficult to think about myself as I get too easily distracted and so can't relax....I am a people pleaser...and birth is really about pleasing yourself!) Fortunately I tuned in to my instinct that said I must just look after myself (and Steven as it happened) and spent an hour or so just relaxing whilst Steven was asleeep. When I realised the contractions were about three minutes apart, even though they weren't painful, (and because I was a midwife and could!) I examined myself. I was shocked to discover my cervix was about 9 cms dilated! Oh heck....I better get the midwife...... and Jaak home from work....I ran a bath but never actually got in and Dan was born 1 hour after that. If you look at the picture on the welcome page you can see from my face that it was a breeze....(I am almost looking glamourous! ....even tho' I say it myself.) Steven was there (aged two) looking very interested in the whole business. I remember saying to my friend who rang just after the birth to see why I hadn't met up as arranged "I could honestly say I could do that again tomorrow!!" I know now it was so easy, because I was relaxed and confident and tuning in to my body. I had taught hypnosis for childbirth to many friends by then and also to mothers at work and it was at that point second nature to me.
Sam's birth in 1989, was longer and harder....he was 2lbs larger than Dan and I hadn't been very sensible about my diet during pregnancy, so I was over weight and not very fit. Also the labour started at 8 pm and I felt I ought to ring the midwife, who then came. With hindsight perhaps I should have gone to bed and rang her when I wanted to push!! I still laboured normally, but with other people around, I couldn't tune into my 'birthing instinct' and I am sure this delayed things. I still delivered naturally, again, like with Steven, dipping in and out of hypnosis as I 'lost it' and didn't have anyone who could help me get back 'into it'. I do remember that I could definitely tell the difference when out of hypnosis!! Steven and Dan were in bed (it was 6.30 am,) but my friend brought them in just after the birth.
Molly was born in a birthing pool. Way back then (1993) this was a new and very strange way to go about birth, but fortunately my wonderful team of Community midwives were trained and ready for me. I definitely recommend a birthing pool. I love water and always feel relaxed in a warm bath, so I just loved the pool. I used hypnosis, but again not as well as perhaps I could have...I think I was distracted by all the anxiety which surrounded me because Molly was borderline premature at 36 weeks and 1 day when my waters broke and I was advised to go into hospital...anyway I refused and took responsibility for her health and wellbeing myself! I trusted my body to work as it should. I went with my deep instincts and dug my heels in and stayed put....but I was a bit tense! Anyway, she was fine and healthy at 6lbs, a lovely little surprise of a daughter after three sons.
Megan our youngest was born in 1996, again in a birthing pool. Everything was normal this time, there was no anxiety. I was pretty experienced by then doing hypnosis alone, I trusted my body and I was much more chilled this time. She looks like she came out smiling! (See picture on classes page)
HypnoBirthing covers all bases as far as I can see. Hypnosis works well, (I know cos I have used it (and not used it) and I know the difference!) But HypnoBirthing gives you it all......A really well designed course, instruction for a birth partner who then knows as much as you do, a course book written by an expert, loads of testimonials, dvds to actually see other mothers giving birth so calmly & CDs to play constantly with positive suggestions to prepare you, Add this together with advice about diet and exercise and more and it really does mean that HypnoBirthing is a watertight programme, which carries on and on proving itself all over America, Ireland and Great Britain. I am really excited to be involved in such a tremendous programme. Please don't hesitate to ring me to know more.
